The School Farm of the Year competition has been introduced to encourage more young people to consider farming as an interesting and viable career. In 2016 around 90 schools applied to take part in the competition with a total of 60 selected to participate. All kinds of vegetable crops were grown, including cabbages, cucumbers and maize. Our agricultural consultants visited the participating schools and helped judge the competition.
The judges considered how the schools engaged their students in farming to promote active learning and develop a positive attitude about food and agriculture, the environment and entrepreneurialism.
The 2016 Awards Ceremony was held on the 25th of November at St Martin’s SHS in Nsawam, Ghana. It was attended by 613 students and 38 Teacher’s representing the sixty schools who participated. At this ceremony we awarded a total of 16 prizes to the schools who produced the best farms.
